Airdate: October 7, 1967 Brenton Wood’s biggest hit, “Gimme Little Sign”, hits #10 today and will peak at #9 next week. “I Had A Dream” peaked at #17 last week and falls to #44 today. This will be the Raiders’ highest charting song until their 1971 #1 hit, “Indian Reservation”. As usual in 1967, there are a lot of well-known regulars dancing here today including: Pat Dickinson (0:12), Dave Cortez (in a vest at 0:17), Tracy Silver (0:34), Christy Schneider (0:27), Famous Hooks and Jenny Nichols (0:48), Maureen Cohen (with her teddy bear at 1:21), Robin Miller (2:15), DeeDee DelCampos (2:15), Theodosia Dayton (2:57), Don Sanuskar (3:22), Forrest Hutchins (3:29), and on the riser during “I Had A Dream” are Mike Langham, Pat Dickinson and Mark Reinglass. In the news this week in 1967, last Monday, Oct. 2 - Thurgood Marshall was sworn is as the first African-American Supreme Court Justice. In Sports, next Saturday, Oct. 14, the NBA’s newest franchise, The Chicago Bulls, played their first game (105-90 loss to the Celtics…Michael Jordan was 4 years old, lol) ___________ In 1967 two great songs made it to the top 10 with the word “Gimme” in the title. “Gimme Little Sign” and “Gimme Some Lovin’”. RIP Spencer Davis. In the U.S., please go VOTE and thank you for watching!

American Bandstand 1967 – 7 Rooms of Gloom, The Four Tops
Airdate: May 27, 1967 Happy Halloween!...Hasn’t it felt like everyday is Halloween since March though? This is the closest thing I could find to a sort-of Halloween song. The Four Tops didn’t really like it, but it has that cool Holland-Dozier-Holland sound and once it gets going it looks fun to dance to. “7 Rooms..” is at #50 today and will peak at #14 next month on June 17. Dancing in the room with no gloom today: Diana Bower, Sue Rose and Marcia Silverman (in the bleachers), John Pollard (0:36), Don Sanuskar & Peggy Waggoner (0:45 – love your leg and footwear Peggy!), Mike Langham (0:57), Stan Soburn & Patty Barden (1:07), Frank Vanderpuil & Dona Waggoner (1:08 on the left), Bud Schwimmer & Olivia Favela (2:11), and Pat Moriarity is on the Hotline about to interview Al Nichol and Jim Tucker from the Turtles about their new release “She’d Rather Be With Me”. RIP Sean Connery, the first and, to many (like me), the best James Bond. Be safe out there Monster Mashing today! Wear those masks and please vote if you haven’t already. Thank you for watching!

American Bandstand – December 12, 1964 - FULL EPISODE – Neil Sedaka, Freddy Cannon
“Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” premiers on NBC, Martin Luther King Jr. receives The Nobel Peace Prize, Desilu Productions begins filming the pilot for a new science fiction series called “Star Trek”, the “Beatles For Sale” album is released, Sam Cooke is shot and killed, and “Goldfinger” premiers in the United States…..it’s December 1964! It’s another “all-time hits show today” as the kids in Hollywood do the “the jerk” to just about everything. The show has been in Hollywood for nearly a year now and a few of the best-known 60’s “regulars” are starting to pop up. Don Sanuskar, Frank Vanderpuil and Peggy Waggoner are only a few months away from making their respective debuts in 1965. Billboard Hot 100 today: 1. Mr. Lonely, Bobby Vinton 2. She’s Not There, The Zombies 3. Ringo, Lorne Greene 4. Come See About Me, The Supremes 5. I Feel Fine, The Beatles 21. The Jerk, The Larks Thank you for coming back and watching. I sincerely missed seeing everyone and all of your comments. I hope you all have a Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and a safe and healthy Happy New Year in 2021!

American Bandstand 1967 – Fashion Show - Hey Baby (They’re Playing Our Song), The Buckinghams
Airdate: October 7, 1967 I’m with you Dick Clark…I dig this too! (especially that astronaut girl 😀) Peggy Waggoner wasn’t in this episode, but wouldn’t it have been fun to see her modeling today too? The regulars modeling for us today (To Al Kent’s “You’ve Got To Pay The Price“) are: Christy Schneider, Mary Pucci, Pat Morarity, Lauren Montgomery, Debbie Kane and Roni Menacker. The lucky boys chosen as dance partners are Alan Conley (5:26), Jim Miranda (6:16), Forest Hutchins (6:34), Mark Reinglass (6:38), Tracy Silver (6:56), and on the riser with Roni is @dancer don, Don Sanuskar (Who danced to this same song in the Sept. 23rd Spotlight Dance during, I think, the same day of taping). “Hey Baby….” (one of my all-time favorites) is at #19 today and will peak at #12 next week. The Buckinghams will have 1 more top 40 hit, “Susan”, which will be released later this year. This will be my last upload for a little while as I’ve posted pretty much every clip I have. I hope you’ve enjoyed watching these as much as I have had sharing them. Maybe it helped you remember the way it used to be, when it made you feel so groovy…just like in the movies 🙂. I will be back SOON with a few more full episodes (YouTube willing) and, if I can find them, more clips. Please stay tuned. It’s gotten worse, but I feel like there’s a dim light at the end of the COVID tunnel (new treatments, vaccines, new management) and hopefully it will come soon. Stay safe, please wear a mask and thank you for watching!

American Bandstand 1967 – Spotlight Dance- Let’s Live For Today, The Grass Roots
Airdate: May 27, 1967 The Grass Roots offer some good advice for people in 1967 and today. The best-known incarnation of the The Grass Root (with Warren Entner, Rob Grill, Rick Coonce, and Creed Bratton) will have their first big hit when “Let’s Live For Today” peaks at #8 in July. Today it is still new on the charts and is at #46. Our Spotlight dancers today are all “regulars” on the show in 1967 including Marcel Poitier & Diana Bower, Dan Snell & Christy Schneider and Buddy Schwimmer & Olivia “Liver” Favela. (another clip featuring Bud and Olivia is coming soon) Anyone from St. Louis listen to KXOK radio in the 60’s? For 60’s music nerds (like me)– The Grass Roots released 2 versions of “Let’s Live For Today”. The original version, which is the one they are playing today, has the lyrics “I need to feel you inside of me…got to feel you deep inside of me”. This was deemed too risqué for radio stations (you can figure that one out) and the group quickly released another version changing the lyrics to “I got to feel you BESIDE me”. The original, mono, single, “inside me” version played today is pretty rare and hard to find. In case you were wondering – The Who appeared on film, not live, but it’s not on my copy of this episode and I can’t find any record of what song they performed. The in-studio guest today was The Buckingham’s. La la la la la let’s live for today…and help others live tomorrow – thank you for wearing a mask and keeping a safe distance and thank you for watching!

American Bandstand – January 4, 1964 – FULL EPISODE
It’s wall-to-wall hits from ‘63 here on the first episode of 1964. There are only 4 episodes left in Philadelphia before the show loaded up their stuff and moved to Hollywood…with swimming pools and movie stars. American Bandstand will air for the first time from California on February 8th, which is great timing as that was the only thing going on music-wise that weekend as far as I know. (for you @oldies geek) On the Billboard Hot 100 today: 1) There! I’ve Said It Again - Bobby Vinton 2) Louie, Louie - The Kingsmen 3) Dominique – The Singing Nun (with all due respect to the Singing Nun, it always baffles me how this song was such a big hit. Maybe it was time for a shake-up in the music scene?) 4) Since I Fell For You – Lenny Welch 5) Forget Him – Bobby Rydell 9) The Nitty Gritty – Shirley Ellis 13) Surfin’ Bird – The Trashmen 25) Everybody – Tommie Roe Please stay safe, wear masks and keep a safe distance so we can be done with this “thing” once and for all. Thank you for your comments and thank you for watching!

Danny & the Juniors - At The Hop (American Bandstand 1958)
AT THE HOP-- Danny and the Juniors--American Bandstand 1958---a hit written by Arthur Singer, John Medora and David White and originally released by Danny & the Juniors. The song was released in the fall of 1957, became a hit on "Bandstand" and reached number one on the US charts on January 6, 1958. Spliced into the clip was a rebroadcast of Danny and the Juniors '58 Beech Nut Saturday Night show appearance staged on the Atlantic City Boardwalk at the Shelburne Hotel The first days of Rock 'n Roll saw many artists with hit records on the radio appear on TV and one of it's early messengers was American Bandstand host, Dick Clark. As many of you know, Dick Clark passed away April 18, 2012 at age 82. Word is he is hoping to launch a new show up in heaven called "World Band Stand" RIP Dancin' and happy Be happy, don't worry. Just keep on dancing. Remember the words of one of the greatest rockers of all time: " When i was 5 years old, my mother told me happiness was the key to life. when i went to school they asked me what i wanted to be when i grew up. i wrote down "happy ". they told me i didn' t understand the assignment. i told them they didn' t understand life " - *John Lennon* A man asked Lord Buddha "I want happiness" Lord Buddha said first remove "I"---that's ego. Then remove "want"--that's desire. See, now, you are only left with "happiness"

Dion & The Belmonts - A Teenager in Love (American Bandstand, 1959)
Each time we have a quarrel It almost breaks my heart 'Cause I'm so afraid That we will have to part Each night I ask the stars up above Why must I be a teenager in love? One day I feel so happy Next day I feel so sad I guess I'll learn To take the good with the bad 'Cause each night I ask the stars up above Why must I be a teenager in love? I cried a tear for nobody but you I'll be a lonely one If you should say we're through Well if you want to make me cry That won't be so hard to do If you should say goodbye I'd still go on loving you Each night I ask the stars up above Why must I be a teenager in love? I cried a tear for nobody but you I'll be a lonely one If you should say we're through Well if you want to make me cry That won't be so hard to do And if you should say goodbye I'd still go on loving you Each night I ask the stars up above Why must I be a teenager in love?
